A student at the University of California, Davis, was stabbed to death last week—one of three victims of recent knife attacks in the area that have left the campus shaken, CNN reported.
Officials implemented an overnight shelter-in-place order late Monday after the most recent stabbing, which police say occurred at “a known transient camp” and left a woman in critical condition. The order was lifted the following morning after police failed to locate the assailant.
Two previous attacks on Thursday and Saturday resulted in two fatalities, including of a UC Davis computer science student who was killed on his way home from an undergraduate awards ceremony. Police have not confirmed that the most recent incident is connected to the two earlier ones, but they said the type of attack and the description of the suspect are consistent.
Students told KCRA, a Sacramento-area CNN affiliate, that the incidents were causing significant unease on campus.
“You never hear of this stuff happening here. It’s seen as like a safe community,” one student said. “It’s just really sad that a lot of students are just now fearing for their lives.”
